How do I broadcast a live event?

Step 1 - Download and install SimpleCast

Click here to download the SimpleCast software and save it to your Desktop. Once the download has finished, double-click on the executable file to start the installation of SimpleCast. Follow the steps of the installation wizard, selecting the default settings, during the installation.

Step 2 - Configure SimpleCast

Start SimpleCast.

Click on the button labeled Encoders to open the encoder configuration window.

Click the button on the toolbar to add a new encoder.

Select MP3 and mp3PRO as the encoder type and click OK.

The following dialog window will be shown. Select High Quality as the Quality and for the Format use the settings below:

  • Dial-up Connection: MP3: 16kb/s, 16.0 kHz, Mono
  • Broadband Connection: mp3PRO: 24kb/s, 32.0 kHz, Mono

Set the Auto reconnect encoder after interval to 1 second and click on the Server Details tab.

Select ShoutCast as the Server Type. Fill the in boxes for the Server Details; rs4.radiostreamer.com for the Server IP.

Fill in the Server Port and Password fields with the information provided by the salaficast.net staff.

Under Station Details, for the Station Name field, type in the actual name of your live event, seminar or lecture. Then type in your web site's URL under Website URL or you can type in http://www.salaficast.net if you do not have a web site. Uncheck List on public station listing and then click OK.

In the main program window, click on the button labeled Config to open up the General options window. Select your audio source from the drop down box labeled Capture sound from device. Normally, you should select Microsoft Sound Mapper as your input device. Click OK when you are done.

Finally, when you are ready to begin broadcasting, highlight the encoder entry as shown below.

Click the button on the toolbar to connect to the server and to begin encoding.

At this point, the sound is disabled and nothing is being broadcast. When a lecture starts, click on the button labeled Start in the main window and the audio will begin being broadcast over the channel. The button will now say Stop. You will also see activity on the audio meters to the right.

When the lecture ends, click on the button labeled Stop in the main window. The encoder will still be active but the audio will be silenced. You can use this method to stop and start the audio in between lectures.

NOTE: When the event is over, click on Stop and then quit the application by pressing the Power button on the top left corner of the main window.

NOTE: If the audio meters do not show any activity even after the Start button is pressed, then open up the Windows Sound Mixer and check the audio source and volume levels under Recording Control.
